Infrastructure Uplift
A downloadable game for Windows
Description
You are a contractor helping fix the infrastructure in an informal settlement in South Africa. To do so, you have moved into the informal settlement and must help your neighbours with the infrastructure in their houses. You will be fixing electrical wires, finding broken pipes and fixing them and even disconnect people who are illegally using another person's power. By helping people you will earn money which can be used to buy upgrades that make doing jobs easier.
About the Game
This game was made by four of us for two courses (one course that lasts two semesters and has a different course number) over this year. Development started in about April and ended this September with one of the requirements being that it has to be submitted onto itch.io. We are from South Africa and one of the requirements was that the game had to tackle a South African issue and we chose to make a game on the problems with infrastructure in informal settlements. We tried our best to create a game that we thought would be fun and we all hope you enjoy the game. If there are any bugs you encounter let us know and we will try our best to patch them. As of October 1st we won't be able to make patches to the game since the assignment was submitted on September 30th and we are not allowed to make changes. Apologies for any issues this may cause.
The game has an ending on the 10th day after the tutorial, but you can choose to keep playing even after that if you want.
Controls
The game uses only keyboard and mouse (no controller) and the main part of the game uses standard first person controls, but those can be mostly changed in the settings menu.
WASD/Up|Left|Down|Right = Movement (can be changed in settings)
Shift = Run (can be changed in settings)
Space = Jump (can be changed in settings)
E = Interact (can be changed in settings)
Mouse = Look around
The other "minigames" as we call them internally have their controls explained in the tutorial and the information can be accessed any time in the main part of the game through the pause screen.
Patch Notes
1.0.1:
- Fixed player getting stuck in certain houses when interacting with the door that starts the electrical rewiring (illegal disconnections/chase) minigame
1.0.2:
- Fixed settings not being saved in tutorial scene and main level
- Fixed illegal disconnections interact sometimes not showing
- Fixed being able to disconnect a wire after it was connected to the right colour (was only visual)

Fun concept. Music my biggest standout, found myself just standing there vibing.
On the note of just standing there, encountered a bug. Entered a house to do tasks and as I was gonna leave the game flashed and now I'm locked inside.
Will look into this and release a patch, thx for letting us know
Thank you for letting us know, the issue should be fixed now (published a new patch/version 1.0.1). The teleport spot was set on the door rather than outside for one of the house prefabs and when collision was reenabled for the character it pushed you back inside the house
This is actually a really fun game, I downloaded and played it just becuase i had nothing else to do but since downloading and playing this game i came to actually enjoy the heck out of it and recommended it to my group of friends. 10/10 would play out of boredom again. Game of the year chat. fr
I have to agree with Carl, the art style really is similar to "Sludge Life". Really fun game (Infrastructure Uplift I mean, Sludge is also fun).
I really did enjoy this game. The art style reminded me of "Sludge Life". The NPC you talk to could use some facial features as I felt I was talking to a sort of slender man. But overall really fun game
